SACRAMENTO, CA – California Strategies, the state’s leading government relations, public affairs, and campaign consultancies, today announced that former Assemblymember Jim Wood has joined the firm as a Partner. A professional dentist by trade and a long-time public servant, Dr. Wood will be based in the Sacramento office and will establish a stronger presence in the North Coast region of California along with California Strategies Partners, Kristin Olsen-Cate and Tony Brunello.
Wood has more than two decades of public service experience, most recently serving as a member of the California State Assembly for 10 years where he held a key position on Speaker Robert Rivas’ leadership team. He has also served as a planning commissioner, city council member, and mayor.

During his Assembly tenure, Wood represented District 2, one of the largest in the state, stretching from the Oregon border to Santa Rosa, CA. As Chair of the Assembly Health Committee for eight years, he championed expanded healthcare access, quality, and affordability.
In addition to healthcare, Wood played a pivotal role in shaping policy on homeowners’ insurance, wildfire preparedness, energy infrastructure, broadband, and natural resource conservation. He consistently advocated for greater government efficiency, technical assistance, and support for rural communities. Recognized for his ability to navigate complex issues, Wood consistently produced significant results for his constituents and all Californians.
Before his lengthy tenure in public office, Wood owned and operated a family dental practice for more than 25 years. As a small business owner, he gained firsthand experience in the vital link between policy, government, and commerce, engaging regularly in advocacy efforts with the California Dental Association.
