Jim Brulte, former Assembly Republican Leader and past Chairman of the California Republican Party, has long been recognized as one of California’s most effective political leaders. Recently highlighted in the Sacramento Bee, Brulte reflected on lessons from his early days in the Legislature, where he became Republican Leader as a freshman at just 34.
Organizing a reunion of the Assembly Class of 1990, Brulte underscored the importance of relationships that transcend politics. “If you want to be a good leader, you need to understand what’s in each member’s short-term and long-term interest,” he noted, crediting his time observing Speaker Willie Brown.
